The Quantum Computer System Design Research Team is recruiting motivated researchers and students to work with us on research and development toward fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQCs).

Open Positions for PhD Students and Postdoctoral Researchers

RIKEN recruits researchers who have recently obtained a Ph.D., or who expect to obtain one soon, as Special Postdoctoral Researchers (SPDR). In addition to a salary, SPDR positions include an individual research budget. If you are interested in pursuing a research career, please consider this opportunity. For details, please see the SPDR program page.If you plan to apply and would like to join our team, please contact a faculty member in advance.

The Quantum Computer System Design Research Team is also recruiting postdoctoral researchers. For details and employment conditions, please refer to the team’s recruitment page.

Positions for Students at universities in Japan

You may be eligible to apply for the Junior Research Associate (JRA) program for graduate students. The JRA program allows you to conduct research at RIKEN while remaining enrolled as a Ph.D. student at your university. Positions are offered through an open call, and the program enables you to pursue independent research while receiving a salary comparable to or higher than that of other fellowships such as JSPS. For details, please see the JRA call for applications. If you would like to request assignment to our research team when applying, please contact a faculty member in advance.

The Quantum Computer System Design Research Team is also continuously recruiting part-time assistants to work on quantum computer systems and software development. We welcome applicants with skills such as knowledge of algorithms and data structures; achievements in competitive programming; experience of individual or team development for software; programming experience using GPUs or supercomputers; low-level development experience involving FPGAs or circuit design; and experimental physics experience related to quantum devices. For examples of specific activities where these skills can be applied, please refer to the For Students page. With permission from your academic supervisor, students may also publish outcomes as first author and incorporate them into your master’s or doctoral thesis.
